Organic & PPC Pros & Cons

You know your business. You're an expert helping clients, but you know potential clientele are passing by you to others with stronger Web presence. Competition in your field is fierce. And you know you need the edge online. Obtaining this edge over your competition isn't as difficult as you may think. Two terms you must know: Pay-Per-Click and Organic. The Pros and Cons of each broken down.

Whenever you want to find something online, what is the first thing you're likely to do?
Most of us go to search sites such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN.com. Your customers are doing the same thing.
There are two basic means for customers to find you online; Pay-Per-Click (PPC) and Organic. PPC refers to paid advertising. Notice the “sponsored links” section at the top of your search results? Companies pay to be featured at the top of search results. Anytime someone clicks on the link, an amount of predetermined money is paid to the search site.

As it sounds, PPC has a great advantage. Your link will appear at the top of the screen anytime someone types in your keywords. The downside is that a lot of users automatically ignore sponsored links. Many find them invasive or just plain annoying. Not to mention it can be a costly endeavor.

Organic is exactly what the word implies. These are “natural” results produced by the keywords searched. People generally associate more trust with these sites than sponsored links. The first few results are often seen as leaders in their field. As such, 85% of “clicks” on Google are said to be organic. This way of searching is free aside from the time and resources needed for search engine optimization.

Customers don't want to hunt for a product or service, so it's important for your Website to be one of the first visible. Most searchers don't look beyond the first page of results. Very few look past two.
So you may be wondering, “How does my website get to the top of the results?”

Results are ordered based on the text in a Webpage, the title, the description, the ALT text, other sites linked to the page, and a number of other variables. These adjustments to your Website can be virtually undetectable to anyone viewing it. Altering your text includes the “density” a word or phrase is used as well as the placement.

Tomorrow I will discuss which one is better PPC or Organic?
